She Said Fuck That’s A Pretty Giant Deep Ocean
2026, New York
She Said Fuck That’s a Pretty Giant Deep Ocean* follows Jane, a young Asian woman navigating migration, loneliness, language, performance, mental illness, and the exhausting labor of being understood. Moving between English and Chinese, memory and self-tape, classroom and apartment, the play traces Jane’s fractured attempts to explain herself—to friends, professors, family, audiences, and perhaps most violently, to the theater itself.
At once intimate, funny, brutal, and formally unruly, the piece asks what happens when personal pain becomes “material,” when translation becomes performance, and when the desire to be seen turns into another kind of drowning. With a live Stage Direction figure mediating, translating, and eventually intruding on Jane’s story, the play exposes the uneasy relationship between vulnerability, spectatorship, and the audience’s appetite for confession.
