Anti-Gone
2025, Edinburgh Fringe
After its New York run, Anti-Gone traveled to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, bringing this bilingual reimagining of Antigone to an international audience. Set in rural northern China and performed across Mandarin and English, the production transformed Greek tragedy into a sharp, darkly comic confrontation between family, power, memory, and the right to mourn.
At Edinburgh, the work became not only an adaptation, but a cultural encounter: a Chinese-centered, independently produced production entering one of the world’s largest performance festivals. Its journey from New York to Edinburgh reflected Shall See Theater’s commitment to building international pathways for multilingual, East Asian-centered theater.
