Hollow Cross

2024, New York

Hollow Cross, adapted from Keigo Higashino's novel of the same name, discusses the interwoven nature of crime and punishment, and life and death. The story delves deeply into the ramifications of the death penalty as well as the question of how one can atone for their mistakes. At its center is a devastating question: after irreversible harm has been done, what can justice actually repair?

The story moves through the emotional and moral aftermath of violence, asking not only what punishment is deserved, but what kind of punishment society believes will make meaning out of loss. Through its exploration of the death penalty, grief, and the long shadow of remorse, Hollow Cross refuses easy answers. It asks whether true atonement is possible, and whether death can ever balance the weight of another death.
